A constant need to be working with my hands is a trait I've had since childhood. From creating costumes, to drawing pictures to taking apart my mother's watch as a young child, the desire to create and discover has always been in my soul. This has carried on and developed in my adulthood by my making art and wearable goods.
Though trained in many disciplines of the arts, my work is mostly in fibers. I tried to work solely with natural fibers, mostly protein fibers, i.e. wool, silk, alpaca, etc. I strongly feel nature has provided us with plenty of choices in our fiber selection and we don't need to resort to petroleum based fibers. I also try to work with recycled goods and reuse fabric from second hand stores in my wearable goods.
My work also reflects my desire to bring a higher level of sophistication to fiber art, primarily felt; which has a large amount of misunderstanding and misconceptions to it. Each of my pieces, whether wearable or aesthetic art, has individual qualities which can not be reproduced. I try to embrace the qualities inherent in the fibers naturally, work with them, let their own beauty come out and shine while providing a functional, wearable good as the end results.
